Not automatically. Payload is strong if you need content as structured data and if you're ready to see operation as part of the product. If you mainly want to publish quickly, have few integrations, and a small team that has to do without a technical partner, WordPress might be the better, more stable choice. "Modern" for us doesn't mean headless but: understandable processes, good performance, and clear responsibilities.

Q: What happens to SEO if we switch from WordPress?

SEO doesn't "get lost," but it gets very quickly damaged if URLs, internal linking, and redirects aren't planned cleanly. That's why we treat a migration like a controlled release: URL inventory, redirect mapping, metadata adoption, and monitoring after launch. If you take this seriously, a shift can even help clean up old legacies, duplicate content, and slow templates.
